Documenting Your Birth

Every birth is a moment of transformation
Let me help you honor this experience with timeless photos or a film that capture the raw beauty and strength of your journey.

The real reason I fell in love with birth photography was because I could give families the ability to remember.
Labor and birth is a process.
Becoming a parent is a process.
They both require processing…
Having a baby is a pretty big deal! It’s one of the biggest events in your life. Much like a wedding, you plan for many months interviewing and hiring the right people, decorating your space, and more - all for this one day that’s gone within a blink of an eye.
Whether your birth is exactly as you hoped or you had to resort to plan B, looking back at your birth photos will feel surreal. 5 years from now you will see something new and be able to relive the highs and the lows all over again.

This is a short text message thread between me and a client who wanted to have a home birth so badly, but ended up transferring to the hospital to receive all the interventions she was trying to avoid. The blue sections are my response to her, and has always been my response to any client who becomes nervous about how their photos/video will look when their birth plans change.

From my heart to yours
When you invite me into your birth space, you’re not just hiring any photographer. You’re putting trust into someone to show up in a way that is safe and supportive. My work comes from the heart, deeply rooted in my own story.
In my life I’ve experienced profound loss, what I would call big T trauma. Multiple deaths in our family back to back, all in 1 years time. In those moments, going through old photographs became the anchor I needed. Not only did they help me process the pain, they helped me hold onto those memories and remember the joys too.
This is a gift I strive to give every family I work with- the power to revisit these moments, to process them, to celebrate them, and to heal.
For me, birth is a transformation. It’s a moment when families are changed forever. My goal is to honor that transformation by preserving it in a way that feels real and deeply personal. I carry my stories with me into every room I enter, ensuring that the care I provide is what I would have wanted if it was me in your shoes.

How it works
Contact me on my inquiry form to check if I’m available for your estimated due date. If I am, you will be emailed instructions on how to book and a proposal with basic info and pricing. In the proposal, you can select the options you want, sign the contract, and then pay your deposit. Because I limit the amount of births I take each month, a $700 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your EDD.
Once your deposit is paid, we schedule a day to meet. I require at least one in-person meeting so we can get to know each other, see each other face-to-face, and learn about all your birth preferences! It also allows me to feel your energy and vibe so I know how to edit your film later.
I’m officially on-call for you starting at 37 weeks. Once you are in labor, I communicate either with you or someone on your birth team and determine when it’s time for me to head over. Documentation starts in active labor, goes through birth, and finishes about 2-3 hours after your baby is born.
Your images/video are given in phases so you always have something to look forward to. Sneak peek pictures are delivered within 24 hours after your baby is born. Your final online gallery is delivered around 3-4 weeks. Short films are roughly 4-6 weeks after that.
Birth Photography is an investment
I’m sure I don’t have to tell ya, hiring a professional photographer can be pricey - especially when you need them to be on standby all hours of the day and the night.
While I offer a few different options, my most popular service is $3200 for a full gallery of images and a cinematic film.
What to look for in a birth photographer
Choosing the right birth photographer is a big decision! Here are a few things to consider when browsing different websites and comparing your options:
A professional birth photographer should always have a back up to replace them in case of illness or unforeseen circumstances. Their backup should also be someone who’s experienced in birth photography so you feel comfortable knowing your special moments are being captured.
Someone who is committed will also have a family is on board with their on-call lifestyle. If they have children, there are plans set in place for them to be unavailable for extended periods of time.
Technology can be unpredictable, but a professional photographer comes prepared. They should have a second camera body and extra memory cards and batteries.
A seasoned birth photographer knows what the process of labor looks like and sounds like, and they know how to navigate it respectfully. They understand that cervical dilation alone does not paint a clear picture of where you’re at in labor. (ex: dilation, effacement, station, and history help)
A professional will know how to handle themselves calmly in emergencies and work seamlessly with medical staff or other birth workers. They stay focused on their role and save their emotional reflections for after they leave your birth.
An experienced photographer will have a high quality portfolio with a variety of birth images from multiple clients displayed so you know what to expect when hiring them. It’s not just a few photos from one birth.
